I think its the lighting, the girls eye, and the retainer, braces watever that is, how it acts to almost frame.

she looks so innocent, the lighting is wonderful and i agree i just really like the headgear in the frame.

Yearbook camp...fun. No actually it sounds interesting. But I think the closest I'll come to that is my photography class this fall.
The lighting on this is really good, and the crop that made the headgear thing so minimal is really nice. I love how everything is perfect except for that. I like this photo because its just a very simple low toned portrait, but there is still so much character in it. I hope it did well for you on your project? Judging from the two daughters, you must have a really beautiful family.

The cold of the retainer contrasts so cold against the warm innocence of the girl and lighting that it really holds my attention.
